What is happening with all the Lotto money in South Africa? Who is suppose to benefit from the money, the Government, NGO’s, Charity? All I can find are one very old 5 year old article and a quote from Thabo Mbeki that doesn’t sound very kosher. http://www.comedyclub.co.za/feature/feature74.html. Why cant the money be used to “fix” ESKOM or buildt houses?

Are you ex soth african ? and the lotto i think isnt a goverment thing its like a thing were hundreds of people buy tickets and the winner wins the money (that is for short) and im woundering …. (is jy Afrikaans ?)
According to the original license agreement with the National Lottery Regulator, the Lotto is compelled to distribute its profits to charities and NGO’s as well as to promote arts, culture and sports.
They are effectively an NGO themselves, although one can be almost certain that there exists the typical African fraud, embezzlement and corruption in the running of the Lotto that we see in all facets of daily South African life.
There were initially complaints by beneficiaries of slow payments or no payments at all despite there being written sponsorship and funding agreements being in place, as well as bonuses and exorbitant salaries being paid to Lotto management, I’m not sure what ever came of that, seems to have died down over time.
The money is there the NGO’s and charities have to apply for the money.
You can’t give the money to Eskom they are a profit driven organisation.
Besided the lotto does not have enough money to lend Eskom.
Did you not see that the Government is lending Eskom R60 Billion.
The houses yes that might work very well.
