Q&A: Does a lottery machine know if a winning lottery ticket has already been used?
Question by saintbeowulf: Does a lottery machine know if a winning lottery ticket has already been used?
I pondering about this in that I won $ 3 USD and I forgot to ask for a receipt, but they didn’t give me my ticket back. Well,I forgot to ask for it back,so does a lottery machine know if a winning lottery ticket has already been used/scanned in order to prevent people from using the same winning ticket again and again?
If it does know, then it would be a reason to why I would like to keep my winning ticket then!

It depends on the state. Many states require the clerk to rip up the ticket once it’s cashed in.
I don’t understand what your concern is for someone to see your already won lottery numbers. It’s not like it would be likely they’d call those same numbers again.
You can keep it, it’s worthless… a lot of stores post the winning tickets of the larger prizes where anyone could grab one. The upc code is read by the computer and stored, can’t be reused.
The computer records when someone claims the winning money from a lottery ticket. It can’t be scanned and the winnings given out more than once.
